GPS and fleet tracking

Fleet GPS that
Operations and Finance love

Operations gets live location, driver behaviour and utilisation reporting. Finance gets road user charges handled, off-road distance claimed back and a per-vehicle cost that starts at $15 a month. Both get it fitted by the same engineers who look after your radios.

Who this is for

Professional fleet GPS for small business cost

Proper fleet telematics arrived first in the very large operators, and it was priced for them — enterprise agreements, integration projects, annual commitments and an account manager two islands away.

That left privately owned New Zealand businesses running ten, thirty or sixty vehicles choosing between two bad options. A budget tracker that shows a dot on a map and not much else, or an enterprise quote that could never be justified to the person who signs it.

This is the professional version, sold the way a private business actually buys. Per vehicle, per month. No fleet minimum, no multi-year commitment, no integration project before it does anything useful. Start at the level you need and move up when there is a reason to.

We can hold that price partly because of where we already are. Most of the fleets we track are Signals radio customers, which means the tracking goes in during a visit that was happening anyway — one booking, one wiring plan, one invoice. You do not have to be a radio customer, but it is why the numbers work.

  • One vehicle off the road. Radio, tracker, Wi-Fi, antennas and RUC done in one booking.
  • One wiring plan. Power, fusing and cable routing designed once, for everything in the vehicle.
  • One roof, planned. Radio, cellular and GPS antennas spaced so they do not interfere with each other.
  • One invoice, one warranty conversation. No arguing about whose equipment caused what.
  • One number to call. The same people, whichever part of the vehicle has the problem.
  • One fleet schedule. We work through the vehicles as they become available rather than all at once.

Where we are different

The platform is not what separates suppliers any more

Fleet tracking platforms have converged. Ours does what the well-known ones do, and we are not going to pretend our map is magic.

What still differs enormously, and what people actually complain about, is everything around the platform. Who turns up to fit it. Whether the install is done properly or cable-tied under a seat. Who answers when a unit stops reporting eighteen months later, and whether they know your vehicles.

We fit it ourselves. We do not hand you a box and a list of installers to ring, and we do not subcontract the vehicle work to whoever is cheapest that month. The engineers who fit it are Signals staff, and they are the same ones who come back when something needs looking at.

That is the whole pitch. It is not a glamorous differentiator, but it is the one that decides whether a fleet tracking system is still being used properly in year three.

  • We install it. Our own engineers, our own vans, in Christchurch, Auckland and out on the road nationwide.
  • No installer hunt. You are not given hardware and left to organise the fitting yourself.
  • Fitted like a radio job. Proper power, proper fusing, proper antenna placement, tidy and hidden.
  • Set up before it ships. Configured, tested and reporting before it goes anywhere near a vehicle.
  • Support for the life of it. Not just the first ninety days while the sale is fresh.
  • Hands on when it matters. If a unit misbehaves we come and look at the vehicle, not just the dashboard.

How it is priced

Nobody has to buy the whole platform

Utilisation dashboards, driver scoring and maintenance scheduling all exist here. Most businesses do not need all of them, and plenty have quietly paid for features nobody ever opened.

So it is tiered on purpose. If all you want is to see where the vehicles are, that is a real option at a real price — not a stripped demo designed to push you up a plan. If you want the rest of it, it is there, and it still is not expensive.

You can move up later, and the hardware in the vehicle does not change when you do.

  • Start where you need to. Simple tracking is a supported product, not a loss leader.
  • Move up without re-fitting. Changing level is a change to your account, not a visit to every vehicle.
  • Per vehicle, per month. No fleet-wide minimum to unlock a sensible price.
  • Industry modules when relevant. Fleet maintenance, agriculture, logistics and passenger transport add-ons exist if you need them.
  • Hardware quoted separately. So you can see what is capital and what is ongoing.
  • Cheaper alongside other work. Installation costs less when it happens with a radio, Wi-Fi or RUC fit-out.

What it does

From a dot on a map to running the fleet

Every level includes live tracking. What you add above that depends on what you actually want to change about how the fleet runs.

Everything below is the same system seen from a different angle — one map, one set of vehicles, with more of the story attached to each one as you move up the levels.

Fleet tracking map open on a laptop, showing a plotted route
Live tracking and trip history, in the browser

Live location

Every vehicle on one map, updating as it moves, with the history of where it has been and how long it stopped.

Geofences

Yards, depots, sites and customer addresses drawn on the map, with arrival and departure recorded automatically.

Driver behaviour

Speed, harsh braking, acceleration and cornering, scored per driver — the data behind a conversation, not a guess.

Reporting and dashboards

Utilisation, distance, idling, time on site and time on the road, in reports that arrive on their own rather than being chased.

Maintenance scheduling

Services, certificates and inspections tracked against actual distance and hours, with reminders before they fall due.

On the phone

Apps for iOS and Android, so the fleet is visible from the ute or the kitchen table as well as the office.

Beyond this there are sector modules — agriculture, logistics and delivery, passenger transport — along with fuel monitoring and theft protection. Most fleets never need them. If yours does, it is an addition rather than a different product.

Road user charges

Electronic RUC, on the same visit

If you run diesel vehicles, road user charges are a cost and an administrative chore in equal measure. Distance has to be read, licences have to be bought before they run out, and any distance run off the public road has to be claimed back or it is simply money gone.

Electronic RUC does that work from the vehicle itself. We are a solution partner for RUC Monkey, a New Zealand-built and New Zealand-supported electronic RUC system, and we fit and support it the same way we fit everything else — ourselves, and usually at the same time as the tracking or radio work.

Off-road distance claimed

Distance run off the public road is identified and the claim managed for you, instead of being lost because nobody had time to work it out.

Licences that top themselves up

Automatic renewal before the distance runs out, so a truck is not working on an expired licence because a purchase was missed.

About an hour per vehicle

The current generation uses a wireless sensor, which cuts the fitting time right down. Less downtime per truck, and far less across a fleet.

Alongside the tracking

Fitted in the same booking as the tracker, the radio and anything else the vehicle is getting, by the same engineers.

Electronic RUC is available as a managed service, with the hardware financed and support included, or by buying the hardware outright and paying a monthly management fee. Which works out better depends on the size of the fleet and how you prefer to treat the cost — we will price both. Road user charge rules, rates and refund entitlements are set by NZTA and can change.

Pricing

Four levels, from $15 a vehicle

Everything on this page, per vehicle, per month, plus GST. Hardware and installation are quoted separately, because both depend on the vehicle and on what else is being fitted at the same time.

Worth adding

Driver logins — $2 a vehicle a month

Give the drivers their own login and they can see their own performance: their scores, their trips, their week. Not the whole fleet, just theirs.

It is a small line on the invoice and it changes how driver behaviour data actually gets used. Scores that only the office can see turn into a conversation someone has to initiate. Scores a driver can see for themselves tend to get sorted out before anyone has to raise them.

Electronic RUC

Priced on the vehicle rather than the plan, because the work the system does for a light ute and a loaded truck is not the same.

Light vehicle

Under 3.5 tonnes

$20 per vehicle, per month, plus GST

Diesel utes, vans and light trucks. Automatic licence renewal, off-road distance claimed, and the distance recorded from the vehicle rather than read off a hubodometer.

Heavy vehicle

3.5 tonnes and over

$32 per vehicle, per month, plus GST

Trucks and heavy combinations, where RUC is a large enough line that getting the off-road claims right pays for the system several times over.

Fleet maintenance can also be added to the levels below four, and there are agriculture, logistics and passenger transport modules for operations that need them — say so when we quote and we will price it in rather than selling it to you later. RUC hardware is either financed inside a managed service or bought outright; we will price both against your fleet.

Common questions

Before you ask us to quote

Do we have to be a radio customer?

No. Plenty of fleets come to us for tracking alone. It is worth saying plainly though that if we already look after your radios, the installation is quicker and cheaper, because it happens in a visit that was going to happen anyway.

Who actually does the installation?

We do. Signals engineers, from Christchurch and Auckland, working nationwide. You are not handed a box of hardware and a list of installers to ring, and the vehicle work is not subcontracted out.

Can we start simple and add features later?

Yes, and a lot of fleets do. Start on live tracking, see how it gets used, and add driver behaviour or reporting once you know what you want out of it. Moving up a level is a change to your account — nobody has to touch the vehicles again.

What does it cost?

From $15 per vehicle per month plus GST for live tracking and geofencing, $18 with driver behaviour, $35 for dashboards and reporting, and $37 with fleet maintenance scheduling on top. Driver logins, so each driver can see their own performance, are another $2 a vehicle. Hardware and installation are quoted on the fleet, and installation costs less when it is done alongside other work on the same vehicles.

Can you handle our road user charges too?

Yes. We are a solution partner for RUC Monkey and fit electronic RUC ourselves, usually in the same visit as the tracking. It buys your licences automatically before they expire and manages claims for distance run off the public road. It is $20 per vehicle per month plus GST under 3.5 tonnes, $32 over.

What happens when we replace a vehicle?

The hardware comes out and goes into the replacement. We fit it so it can be removed cleanly, because vehicles get sold and leases end long before a tracking unit is worn out.

How do we get the data into our own systems?

The platform supports integration with accounting and business systems, and reporting can be scheduled out automatically. Tell us what it needs to feed and we will tell you honestly whether it is straightforward or a project.

Tell us about the fleet

How many vehicles, what they are, where they work and what you want to know about them. We will tell you which level actually suits you, what the hardware and fitting come to, and whether electronic RUC is worth doing at the same time.
