GME Personal Locator Beacon
Price range: $565.00 through $659.00 inc GST
A GME 406 MHz personal locator beacon (PLB) sends your position to search and rescue anywhere in New Zealand when you have no cellphone coverage. These models are NZ-coded and suit trampers, hunters, farmers, contractors and anyone working or travelling alone in the backcountry.
- MT610G: GPS/Galileo PLB
- MT620G: GNSS PLB with Return Link Service, which confirms your distress signal has been received. Includes NFC and the GME app for self-tests
- 406 MHz distress signal plus 121.5 MHz homing beacon and high-intensity strobe
- Compact (160 g), IP68 waterproof and buoyant
- 7-year battery life, 6-year warranty
Help when there's no coverage
Much of New Zealand's backcountry, high country and coast has no mobile coverage. A PLB sends a 406 MHz distress signal via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, with your GPS position, to the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand. A 121.5 MHz homing signal and bright strobe then help rescuers find you. PLBs are a key part of a lone worker safety plan for farmers, forestry crews, contractors and field staff.
Which model?
- GME MT610G: a compact, proven PLB with a 72-channel GPS/Galileo receiver for a fast, accurate position fix.
- GME MT620G with Return Link Service (RLS): adds Galileo Return Link Service, so the beacon confirms that your distress alert has been received. That's real reassurance while you wait for help. It also has NFC and works with the GME Accusat Connect app (Android and iPhone) for battery monitoring and self-tests.
Built for the outdoors
Both models are compact (88 × 66 × 36 mm, 160 g), IP68 waterproof to 10 m and inherently buoyant, so they float if dropped in water. They operate from −20 to 55 °C, transmit for more than 24 hours, have a 7-year battery life and come with a 6-year warranty. Batteries are replaced through a GME service centre.
Register your beacon
All 406 MHz beacons in New Zealand must be registered with the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand. Registration is free and lets rescuers contact your emergency contacts and respond faster.
