Long-range HF communications
The Icom IC-F8101 is a professional HF SSB transceiver for remote and back-country operations, emergency services, expeditions and agencies that need reliable communication over hundreds or thousands of kilometres, with no towers, repeaters or cellular coverage needed. It pairs a clear, menu-driven controller with Icom's DSP receiver for strong, intelligible audio on difficult paths.
It suits base stations, vehicles and field camps. Pair it with an Icom AT-140 automatic antenna tuner, the right antenna and a suitable power supply, and Signals can help with installation and programming.
Key features
- Built-in ALE picks the best channel and sets up links automatically, interoperable with MIL-STD-188-141B and FED-STD-1045A.
- Selcall to CCIR 493-4 (4- and 6-digit), including emergency and GPS position calls, with a password-protected remote stun.
- Three configurations: controller attached for desktop use, remote control microphone for vehicles, or a detached controller (separation cable sold separately).
- Rugged build: sealed, fanless chassis, IP54 and tested to MIL-STD-810G.
- Clear audio with DSP Clear Talk, plus call, S-meter and syllabic squelch.
- Options: UX-248 GPS unit for position reporting and AVL, internal slot for a RapidM TC4 / TC4-LP data modem (HF email, digital voice, 256-bit AES), and the CFU-F8100 fan unit for full duty cycle.
- Built-in test (BITE) and administrator / user access levels.
