Icom IC-M410BB / M510BB Black Box VHF

Price range: $1,153.45 through $1,597.35 inc GST

The Icom IC-M410BB and IC-M510BB are black box VHF marine radios for boats where helm space is at a premium. The 25 W RF unit mounts out of sight, and everything, including Class D DSC, is run from the waterproof HM-195 CommandMic. Both include GPS, NMEA 2000, active noise cancelling and a 13 W RX hailer; the IC-M510BB adds an AIS receiver, voice recording and a third station.

The Icom IC-M410BB and IC-M510BB split the radio into two parts: a compact RF unit that can be installed out of sight, and a waterproof CommandMic that does everything a full fixed-mount VHF can, including DSC. The CommandMic can sit up to 18.3 m (60 ft) from the RF unit, leaving the console clean and freeing up space on centre consoles, open-deck boats and sportfishers with a tower.

Add extra CommandMic stations and use them as an intercom between the helm, cockpit and tower. Built-in GPS, NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183-HS connect the radio to your chartplotter or MFD, sharing GNSS position, DSC calls, channel information and, on the IC-M510BB, AIS targets.
