VHF Standard Yagis
Price range: $438.73 through $672.98 inc GST
Hi-Tec Aerials standard series VHF yagis are light, cost-effective directional antennas for VHF links, farm base stations and telemetry. Six models from 2 to 6 elements let you match gain to the path. They’re made in New Zealand from silver-anodised aluminium.
- Y2V to Y6V: 3 to 9 dBd gain
- Five bands: 118–136, 138–144, 151–156, 156–162 or 162–170 MHz
- 200 W, 25 mm square boom, ships as a compact kitset
- Y6V in centre-mount (Y6VCM) or end-mount (Y6VEM) versions
- Supplied with a 1 m RG58 tail and N plug, no clamp
- Customisable: cable type, cable length, connector and mounting
Directional VHF on a budget
A yagi focuses signal towards a distant repeater, base or telemetry site, extending range and cutting interference from other directions. The standard series is designed for urban and rural sites. The yagis are light with a small projected area, so they can go on low-cost supports. Elements are 12.7 × 1.42 mm extruded grade 6000 aluminium with a silver anodised finish, clamped to a 25 mm square boom with cast aluminium clamps and stainless hardware. The matching section is sealed inside the driven element, so no external balun is needed.
Choosing a model
- Short paths or wide coverage: Y2V (3 dBd, 145° H-plane) or Y3V (5.5 dBd).
- General links: Y4V (7 dBd) or Y5V (8 dBd).
- Long paths: Y6V (9 dBd), centre mounted (Y6VCM) for better balance on the mast or end mounted (Y6VEM).
- Band: 118–136 (airband), 138–144, 151–156, 156–162 (marine) or 162–170 MHz.
For an omnidirectional antenna, see the VHF folded dipole. For harsher sites, see our professional VHF yagis. Yagis can be stacked with a power divider. For UHF, see our UHF standard yagis.
Standard build and customisation
As standard, each yagi comes with a 1 m RG58 tail, an N plug and no clamp. Order codes follow Model–Band–Cable–Length–Connector–Clamp, e.g. Y4V-162-170-58LL-5-BNCP-MC38 is a 4-element yagi for 162–170 MHz with 5 m of RG58 Low Loss, a BNC plug and a 38 mm clamp. You can customise:
- Cable: RG58 or RG58 Low Loss, any length (see coax cable)
- Connector: N, BNC, TNC, FME or unterminated (see connectors)
- Mounting: mounting clamps or saddle clamps, plus fascia mounts
